Real-time Approximate Routing for Smart Transit Systems

چکیده
We study real-time routing policies in smart transit systems, where the platform has a combination of cars and high-capacity vehicles (e.g., buses or shuttles) seeks to serve set incoming trip requests. The can use its fleet as feeder connect passengers fleet, which operates on fixed routes. Our goal is find optimal (bus) routes corresponding frequencies maximize social welfare system given time window. This generalizes Line Planning Problem, widely studied topic transportation literature, for existing solutions are either heuristic (with no performance guarantees), require extensive computation (and hence impractical use). To this end, we develop 1-1/e-? approximation algorithm Real-Time using ideas from randomized rounding Generalized Assignment Problem. guarantee holds under two assumptions: (i) inter-bus transfers (ii) access pre-specified feasible bus lines. moreover show that these assumptions crucial by proving that, if assumption relaxed, ?ineplanningproblem does not admit any constant-factor approximation. Finally, demonstrate practicality our via numerical experiments real-world synthetic datasets, budget, outperforms Integer Linear Programming-based exact methods.

Approximate Analysis of Real-Time Database Systems
During the past few years, several studies have been made on the performance of real-time database systems with respect to the number of transactions that miss their deadlines. These studies have used either simulation models or database testbeds as their performance evaluation tools. We present here a preliminary analytical performance study of real-time transaction processing. Using a series ...
متن کاملThermal imaging systems for real-time applications in smart cities
In the modern world, cities need to keep up with the demand for mobility, efficient infrastructure and environmental sustainability. The future smart cities use intelligent information and communication technologies to raise the quality of life. This includes computer vision as one of the main technologies. It can observe and analyse human activities from a distance in a noninvasive manner. Tra...
متن کاملApproximate Real-Time Clocks for Scheduled Events
This paper presents a simple protocol that provides application processes with an approximate real-time notion. This time notion is very versatile. At one extreme, it behaves at least as virtual time (being thereby consistent with causality). At the other extreme, it behaves as real-time. More precisely, with respect to approximate real-time all scheduled events are always executed at their sch...

Technology mediated healthcare services designed to stimulate patients’ self-efficacy are widely regarded as a promising paradigm to reduce the burden on the healthcare system. The promotion of healthy, active living is a topic of growing interest in research and business. Recent advances in wireless sensor technology and the widespread availability of smartphones have made it possible to monit...
متن کاملReal-Time Object Detection for "Smart" Vehicles
This paper presents an e cient shape-based object detection method based on Distance Transforms and describes its use for real-time vision on-board vehicles. The method uses a template hierarchy to capture the variety of object shapes; e cient hierarchies can be generated o ine for given shape distributions using stochastic optimization techniques (i.e. simulated annealing). Online, matching in...
